With the Governments Feed-In-Tariff, you get paid for the green energy which you generate, even if you use it. By installing a solar PV system on to your roof space, you will receive a tax-free income via the FIT by means of a reward for investing in renewable technology. If you are wishing to claim the feed-in-tariff it is essential that your install is carried out by an MCS approved company.
Schemes which offer 'free' solar panels allow you to reduce your bills, but they will not give you the benefit of the tax free income from the FIT.
With Solar PV systems, you will be able to claim the Governments FIT for 20 years, tax free. The rate is expected to drop in the future, but you will receive guaranteed payments for the rate at the time of being approved.
